There’s a day every year that sneaks up on you.

Not because the calendar says it’s fall.

We don’t wake up to sidewalks covered in orange leaves.

Hoodies Aren’t Just for Cold Weather

People from colder places usually think hoodies are about staying warm.

Around here they’re more about being prepared.

You throw one in the truck before heading to the beach.

You leave one folded behind the driver’s seat because you know you’ll probably need it eventually.

You tie one around your waist halfway through the day because you’re convinced you’ll wear it later.

Eventually you do.

Not because it’s freezing.

Because seventy degrees after sunset feels completely different than seventy degrees at noon.

Nobody really needed to.

In another few months we’ll probably be talking about spring again.

That’s one of the best parts about living here.

The seasons don’t demand that you completely change your wardrobe.

They simply ask you to layer differently.

And sometimes all that means is remembering to toss your favorite hoodie into the back seat before you leave the house.
